About Christianity

What is Christianity?

Christianity is a monotheistic religion which began as a sect of Judaism in the 1st century. It is centred on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, God incarnate, who came to earth as the messiah in the Jewish tradition to fulfil the prophesies contained within the Old Testament.

It is the world’s largest religious group, with over 2.4 billion followers or 33% of the global population and makes up a majority of the population in about two-thirds of the countries in the world.

Who is Jesus?

Jesus, also known as Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus Christ, or simply The Christ, was a man who was born approx. 4 BC. He was a Jewish carpenter who was born in Nazareth, a small town in the province of Judea in present-day Palestine—occupied by the Roman Empire at the time.

He was renowned for his many teachings and miracles at the time, as recorded in the New Testament, which ended when he was tried and crucified at approx. 33 AD for the false charge of sedition.

His death was not the end, however, as he was raised three days after his crucifixion—leaving an empty tomb behind and showing himself to many eyewitnesses for forty days before his ascension to Heaven as proof that he is indeed the Messiah and Son of God , foretold to come to write a new law in mankind’s hearts in the scriptures.

For two thousand years, Jesus’ teachings continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration to Christians and non-Christians and as a source of hope for this world and the next.

Why go to Church?

We believe that the best way to get know more about Jesus and Christianity is to attend a church service. Not only can one gain a better understanding of Jesus’ teachings by listening to sermons, there is no better proof of God’s work as seeing and talking to people who has felt the power of Christ work through their lives and turned it for the better.

In addition to Sunday and special services, we also have various off-site meetings held on weekdays for people of varying degrees of faith—from those unfamiliar with Christianity, new converts and longtime Christians who want to get to know the mind and heart of God through sincere study of the Bible and fellowship with others.
