A History of

All Saints

Jakarta

Established in 1819, All Saints Church Jakarta is by far the oldest English-speaking institution in Indonesia.

First as a base for the London Missionary Society's mission to China, then as a colonial chaplaincy and for the last fifty years as an international church, All Saints has both witnessed and participated in Indonesia's colourful and turbulent history.

Change & Chances gives a unique insight into the changing fortunes of six generations of a remarkably resilient community in Southeast Asia.

Author:

Andrew Lake was Vicar of All Saints from 1996 to 2004. During that time other than church duties he served on the Board of the British International School and helped Pam raise four delightful teenagers: Hannah, Susie, Jonathan and Miriam. Prior to Jakarta (population 12,000,000) Andrew was a country parson in Uralla, New South Wales (population 2,500). He now works in Tasmania, Australia (population 500,000).
