Be ready for 09 January 4, 2009 - Ian
At the cusp of another New Year, we have just said goodbye to the old one and welcomed in the new. There is a stronger sense of hope that this year must be better than the one just gone. After all, the last one was so hard, so difficult and so challenging things must get better.
My prayer is that it will be a better year, but maybe it will not. Maybe it will be harder with an economic crisis still in the foreground, global warming changing our climate, an Indonesian election year and all the uncertainty and unrest that this can bring etc, etc. 2009 still needs us to be ready for what it might bring.
How can we be ready?
We can be certain that God and his love for us will never change, year after year he is constant. As the old year moves on and the new comes, God may have different activities, events, challenges and joys in mind for us but we can always rely on him being with us and helping us through them.
We can know for certain God’s care for us because of what Christmas means; the coming of God among us, firstly in Jesus and now by the Holy Spirit. God also gives us each other to help us be ready. God does not leave us like orphans, we are his children, his Sons and his Daughters and what ever circumstances come along in 2009 we can be ready because we know God is with us.
Hebrews 13:5 God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Knowing this, really knowing this and trusting in it, will help us be ready for whatever God send us this year.
